www.southgateshowcase.co.uk At the Southgate Club we are very unhappy with the status of live music, open mic nights and gigs in the UK, The majority of original artists, musicians and singer songwriters do not get paid for their performances, with the profits solely going to the promoter or venue, even if they play up the West End. Our approach is the reverse, they need encouragement, and that is why we are able to attract the most gifted musicians and artists to the club. We even have two bands who played in Glastonbury 2010 who have showed willingness to play for us, purely because of our moral and ethical stance on this issue. Quite simply it is exploitation on a grand scale, totally unfair and not helpful to the artists or the music industry. From the support we have received, we are convinced this approach will establish the Club as a serious and quality venue for Live Music.It is our intention in the New Year have regular events on a Friday and Saturday nights, as well as launching a "chill out" Sunday afternoon, where parents can relax, and bring their children, have some food, read the papers, listen to some live music, fun and competitions for the kids, it will be a wonderful combination of entertainment and relaxation for parents and kids alike, particularly on a grey Sunday afternoon. In the New Year we are planning to host live music events every week as well as workshops for up and coming musicians.
